Dr. Mike Bovee

Dr. Mike Bovee

It all started with a low back injury...

Growing up a very active and sports-oriented person in upstate New York, I played many sports but seemed to excel in football. I played this great American sport all the way up through high school and college. After college, I was recruited to play professional football in the Arena Football League. After a short stint in this league I suffered an injury to my lower back that sidelined me for several weeks. I was ultimately told that I had no other options but surgery to repair two herniated discs in my lumbar spine.

What happened next changed my life forever! A friend of mine suggested I go see his chiropractor for a second opinion. At first I thought, "No way, those guys are quacks." However, after serious consideration I figured I could try chiropractic and if it didn't help me (which I was sure it wouldn't) then I could still opt to have the surgery. Simply put, I was a skeptic...

Well.....let me tell you, not only did chiropractic get me out of pain, but it also made me feel better overall than I had in years! From all of the years of abuse my body took from playing sports I had more issues than I thought. I was so impressed with my outcome that I decided to hang up my very prominent football career and become a chiropractor so that I could make a difference in other people's lives like chiropractic did in mine.

My Chiropractic Journey

I earned my Doctor of Chiropractic degree from a small school in Spartanburg, South Carolina that has an outstanding reputation for turning out solid, grounded chiropractors, Sherman College of Chiropractic. What surprised me about my education was that chiropractic students receive as much education as medical students do, and in some areas, such as Anatomy and Diagnosis & Radiology/X-ray we receive more education. I think the classes I liked most were the ones dealing with Anatomy because of my interest in health and the human body.

Personally

While attending Sherman College I met a wonderful woman, Angela, that I now call my wife.  She has blessed me with two wonderful boys, Austin and Alex.  On my personal time I enjoy spending quality time with my family, coaching youth sports, lifting weights, exercising, sports, reading, nutrition and health, riding my Harley-Davidson motorcycle, taking the boat to the lake with my family, going camping, trips to the beach, anything outdoors, classic and muscle cars.

I truly understand the importance of a healthy nervous system and that is why I get my spine checked for subluxations about every 2 weeks. I feel this schedule works the best for my spine based on my daily activities and stress that I am under on a regular basis. I think it is important to "practice what I preach." In other words, I tell my patients how important maintenance care is, therefore, I make it a point to follow the same advice I am giving them. I firmly believe that the human body has the innate ability to take care of itself, given the appropriate tools. Along with making sure I have a healthy nervous system, I also try to do the following on a regular basis: exercise, eat a healthy diet, take essential vitamins and nutritional supplements, and de-stress.

Reviews By Our Satisfied Patients

  • "Dr. Bovee has truly improved my quality of life. Ten years ago I was in a serious car accident. With constant neck, lower back pain and a 24/7 headache. I had taken many medical paths that gave me no relief whatsoever. In February 2010 I started seeing Dr. Bovee after having trouble breathing from having a rib out. Even though I was in pain and uncomfortable the staff was warm, funny and very accommodating to my needs. After consistently seeing Dr. Bovee, not only have my headaches and neck pain decreased, after a 12 hour car ride I can ride in a car without any back pain. I haven't been able to travel without pain for 10 years!"

  • "I saw Dr. Shride for the second time this week about a new hip flexor injury I was worried might develop into something debilitating. Dr. Shride made quick work of it with adjustments to my lower back, hip and ankles. In an almost effortless fashion, he cleared up what I thought might be a long term injury. Many thanks! I will be returning for future injuries."
